K-2nd Grade Session 1: Slime? A Polymer of course!

Hello Parents,

We kicked off our six week focus on chemistry by making a polymer, a.k.a slime!
Our young chemists first discussed what slime really is: a bunch of carbon molecules all connected into a chain.  We looked at how carbon is in many things, including the air we exhale when we breathe!  We then talked about how a polymer is "slimy" because it is BOTH a liquid and a solid at the same time!  Then we got our hands dirty, literally.

Our little chemists did a phenomenal job!  I am very proud of the way they stayed focused and engaged.
Kids took their polymer(slime) home in a ziplock bag for future (supervised) play.  I am looking forward to next Monday when I hear stories about what ever happened to their creation.
